Hazardous Materials Chemical Assessment Team (CAT)
The West Central Wisconsin Regional Response Team, which is based out of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls fire departments, provides coverage for 14 counties including Barron. In order to provide a rapid response to a suspected/confirmed hazardous materials release in the northern portion of their response area, the West Central Wisconsin Regional Response Team has contracted with the Rice Lake Fire Department (RLFD) to act as a Chemical Assessment Team (CAT). RLFD will utilize career personnel who are trained to the Hazardous Materials Technician Level.
PURPOSE
To provide a rapid response/deployment of personnel to a suspected/confirmed hazardous materials release meeting Regional Response Team criteria.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
The primary responsibility of the CAT is that of reconnaissance, research, and communication. The CAT does not assume an offensive role in the incident but acts as an advisor and laison to the Incident Commander of the authority having jurisdiction and to the West Central Wisconsin Regional Response Team.
RESPONSE AREA
The area encompassing State Highway 64, north to the north County lines of Rusk, Barron, and Polk Counties. The western Price and Taylor County line is the Eastern boundary with the State line being the western boundary.
